Let Us Know What You Think, plus Family Movies, Financial Education for Preschoolers, and More this Week at Stark County District Library

This Week at SCDL: Tell Us Your Opinions of Library Services, Catch a Family Movie, and a special preschool story time about spending and saving money.

This week Stark County District Library features programs for the whole family on either side of Labor Day Weekend—hope you have a great one, by the way. Stop by to tell library administrators what you think of your library and its services at the first of a series of public forums on the events calendar. Additionally, at two SCDL branches we’ll have fun with Family Movie Night and Saturday Matinee. And, caregivers and toddlers can learn about money, spending, saving, and sharing at an innovative story time called For Me, For You, For Later.

As always, each program listed here is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered), and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

On Tuesday, August 28, East Canton Branch’s ongoing Women’s Writers Circle meets. Join us for discussions on how to bring your memories to life through the written word. Everyone has a story to tell and a legacy to create. Women’s Writing Circle meets to offer support and encouragement on Tuesdays throughout the fall.

The first of ten Public Forums about the library and library services begins this week at North Branch, on Thursday, August 30, and at Lake Community Branch on Saturday, September 1.  Library Administration will be available at these meetings to hear your thoughts and opinions. How does the library impact your life? What improvements could be made? Let us know at one of the Public Forums, which will be coming to each branch throughout September. Here’s a link to the whole schedule.

Saturday, September 1 is also the beginning of the Saturday Super Matinee at DeHoff Memorial Branch. This family movie matinee will be presented on the first Saturday of each month this fall. Saturday’s movie is Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, starring Gabrielle Union, Thandie Newton, and Phylicia Rashad.

On Tuesday, September 4, Madge Youtz Branch will host For You, For Me, For Later, a special story time for preschool children to learn about saving, spending, and sharing. These story times were made possible by a grant from the PNC Foundation. The program is scheduled on Tuesdays in September at Madge Youtz. It will also be offered at other branches thoughout the Stark County District Library system. Here’s a link to the entire For Me, For You, For Later schedule.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program is an interactive program to help families learn about nutrition, meal planning, making the most of food dollars, and increasing physical activity. It’s presented by the Ohio State University Extension in Stark County on Tuesdays in September at DeHoff Memorial Branch—starting September 4.

East Canton Branch presents Disney Nature’s Earth at Family Movie Night on Tuesday, September 4. Enjoy a great family movie with us on the first Tuesday of every month this fall.

Teens can learn to knit or perfect their already rad knitting skills at Knit or Dye: Teen Knitting Circle on Tuesday, September 4 at Plain Community Branch. Bring supplies with you if you have them. We’ll have limited knitting supplies available as well. I suppose my use of the word ‘rad’ is probably a tip off to when I myself was a teenager… they're still saying rad, aren't they?

Adults looking for a great new knitting circle to join should check out Knit or Dye for Adults, which meets one day later on Wednesday, September 5 (also at Plain Community Branch). Knitting is a great social, stress reducing, and creative craft, and all skill levels are welcome, so join us and meet new people while you make something great.

There are many other excellent events planned at a branch of the Stark County District Library near you, including children's story times, book groups for adults, computer classes, programs for teens, and much more. For a full listing of events and programs, check www.StarkLibrary.org/eventscalendar and find something that enriches and inspires you today.
