Did you know the Stark County District Library is More Than Books? Each week the library promotes early literacy with numerous story times for children and families. The library offers Baby, Toddler, Preschool, and Family Story Times on a regular basis, with special story times like For Me, For You, For Later, a program on financial literacy sponsored by PNC Bank, Pajama Story Time, and Black History Month Story Times. Coming in April, the library will also present National Library Week Celebrity Story Times—local celebrities will treat families to their favorite stories. Families can celebrate Black History Month one more time at Black History Month Story Time on Wednesday, February 27, at North Branch. Enjoy stories, songs, and fun while learning about the lives and achievements of African Americans.
Teen fans of all things British—such as Dr. Who, Sherlock Holmes, Monty Python, and more, can make new friends and chat about their favorite characters and culture from the U.K. at British Social Club on Wednesday, February 27. The club meets monthly at Main Library.
Stark County District Library has two fun upcoming programs inspired by great children’s authors. Young fans (Grades K-5) of award-winning author and illustrator Mo Willems colorful stories can enjoy an elephant, piggy, and pigeon party at Don’t Let the Pigeon Visit the Library on Thursday, February 28 at Main Library. And, on Saturday, March 3, Grades Preschool-3 are invited to Jackson Township Branch for a Dr. Seuss Celebration. It’ll be an afternoon of stories, crafts, games, and music, with snacks and refreshments--sponsored by the Jackson Friends of the Library.
Science Saturdays at Sippo begins on Saturday, March 2 at Perry Sippo Branch and continues each month through May. Grades K-5 can have all kinds of fun as we explore the science behind creating slime, how acids and bases work, and what it takes to make milk explode.
DeHoff Memorial Branch hosts Super Saturday Matinee on March 2. Families can enjoy a movie on the first Saturday of the month through May. This month’s movie is Music of the Heart.
National Library Week is coming in April, and to celebrate, Stark County District Library will present several Celebrity Story Times. It’ll be a fun way for families to enjoy great stories read by local celebrities. As a preview, Plain Community Branch has scheduled a Celebrity Story Time for Saturday, March 2. Get ready for Easter at Sandy Valley Branch on Monday, March 4 with Pysanky. Bring 3 blown out eggs and learn to decorate them in the traditional Ukrainian way, using the wax-resist method, to create beautiful designs.
