Book sales, a Family Mural, the Appreciation of Comic Books, and National Library Week at Stark County District Library

Book sales, a Family Mural, the Appreciation of Comic Books, and National Library Week at Stark County District Library

This week, local authors visit Stark County District Library; we host a pair of Book Sales; we start the celebration of National Library Week; you can add your self portrait to the North Branch Family Mural, and much more! Additionally, April is National Poetry Month, and Stark County District Library continues the celebration with numerous poetry programs, workshops, and contests for all ages, a full list of which can be viewed on the SCDL website.

Speaking of poetry, critic David Orr wrote an illuminating and fascinating article recently about a poem called "Turbulence" by Adrienne Rich, who died last Tuesday. If you enjoy poetry, it's worth a look. Orr's 2011 book about poetry, Beautiful & Pointless, a guide to Modern Poetry, looks pretty interesting as well.

As always, each program below is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered) and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

On Saturday, Apr 7, you can also check out the Book Sale at Main Library for more great bargains. Main Library's book sales are the first Saturday of every month, and the stock constantly rotates, so you never know what treasures you'll find.

National Library Week begins the week of Apr 8, and Stark County District Library has numerous events set up to celebrate, including a Kindle Download Party, Children's activities, a special Arabian Nights Dinner at the Desert Inn, and The Tour de SCDL. The Tour de SCDL features opportunities for you to win one of several Amazon Kindles that were donated by SCDL Friends of the Library Groups.

Families are invited to stop by North Branch between Monday, Apr 9 and Saturday, Apr 14 and help us create the "You Belong @ Your Library" mural for National Library Week. Draw your self portrait or have your picture taken to fill our mural.

If you've ever followed the adventures of Spiderman, the X-Men, Iron-Man, or pondered the nature of the Marvel Comics universe, you won't want to miss local author and comic book aficionado Adam Besenyodi. He'll visit Lake Community Branch on Tuesday, Apr 10 to share his book, Deus Ex Comica, which relates his experience of comic books growing up and now as an adult.

There are many other excellent events planned at a branch of the Stark County District Library near you, including children's story times, book groups for adults, computer classes, programs for teens, and much more.
