Audition to Open the Dewey Decibel Stand-Up Comedy Tour at SCDL

Did you know the Stark County District Library is More Than Books? Each week your library presents numerous informative, inspiring, and entertaining programs for all ages, from children’s story times to book discussion groups, and computer classes.  This week’s schedule includes Meth Lab Community Awareness, an exploration of the Tomb of Tutankhamun, a guided Wildlife Hike, and more.

As always, each program listed below is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered), and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

There’s still plenty of time to participate in the library’s Exercise Your Mind Summer Reading Challenge. It continues through July 27. Kids ages newborn through 12th grade can pledge to read 1 to 100 books this summer and win prizes for meeting the Challenge. This year we’re using a neat online system for tracking participants’ reading—the instructions are here.

The Dewey Decibel Stand-Up Comedy Tour is coming to Perry Sippo Branch in August, and you can audition to open the show with a five minute set of your own original comedy. The tour features Bill Hildebrandt, a regular headliner at the Riviera in Vegas along with Kevin Kramis performing an evening’s worth of comedy improve with audience participation. To audition for the show, upload one minute of your best, original, library-friendly (i.e., “clean”) comedy to the Stark County District Library’s YouTube channel at www.StarkLibrary.org/dewey-decibel.  The site will be open for posting from July 1 through August 11.  The public gets to vote for the opening act during the week of August 12-18. The video with the most “likes” will be the winner. We’ll notify the winner on August 19, giving you two weeks to prepare your five minute opening act for the August 30th show.
