Are You Funny? Open the Dewey Decibel Stand-Up Comedy Tour at Stark County District Library

Did you know the Stark County District Library is More Than Books? Each week your library presents numerous informative, inspiring, and entertaining programs for all ages, from children’s story times to book discussion groups, and computer classes.  This week’s schedule includes Photo Shows featuring pictures from participants in the summer Photo Contests, as well as an American Girl Book and Snack Evening for Tweens, and a summer band concert for all ages featuring the music of the Big Band Era.

As always, each program listed below is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered), and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

Do you like to make people laugh? You can bring your talent for comedy to the stage as the opening act for The Dewey Decibel Stand-Up Comedy Tour. The tour features Bill Hildebrandt, a regular headliner at the Riviera in Vegas along with Kevin Kramis performing an evening’s worth of comedy improv with audience participation at Perry Sippo Branch on August 30. Upload one minute of your best, original, library-friendly (i.e., “clean”) comedy to the Stark County District Library’s YouTube channel at www.StarkLibrary.org/dewey-decibel for a chance to be the show’s opener.  The site will be open for posting through August 11. The public gets to vote for the opening act during the week of August 12-18, and the video with the most “likes” will be the winner. We’ll notify the winner on August 19, giving you two weeks to prepare a five minute opening act for the August 30th show.

We’ll be displaying photos from the participants in the summer photo contests at several Stark County District Library branches in the coming days. Stop in and see the great artistry of your friends and neighbors. Judging of the photos entered in the 8th Annual Lake Community Branch Photo Contest is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30. The Lake contest is sponsored by Quail Hollow State Park Camera Club. Madge Youtz Branch will display photos entered in their contest beginning Monday, July 29 and running through Saturday, August 3. North Branch’s Photo Show is Wednesday, July 31. DeHoff Memorial Branch hosts their Photo Show on Thursday, August 1, and Jackson Township Branch presents their exhibition on Monday, August 5. Here’s a link to the days, times, and locations of all the upcoming photo shows.
