The North Canton Public Library Announces Family Film Fridays in Bitzer Park starting Friday, June 14.

Families are invited to gather under the stars in Bitzer Park as the North Canton Public Library presents Family Film Fridays this summer. Films will be shown in the park the second Friday of June, July and August. The June 14th film, Mary Poppins, was the overwhelming choice of voters in a library Facebook poll.

The movies will be shown on a large, inflatable screen. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on and pillows for comfort. Children’s activities will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk.  June’s activity will allow children to decorate large cardboard boxes, turning them into “cars,” that children can sit in to watch the movie, essentially making Bitzer Park a “drive-in” theater for children. There is no cost to attend the event.

In June, the North Canton Playhouse will provide a concession stand with refreshments and drinks available to purchase. Families are welcome to bring their own snacks if they choose. In addition to the children’s activities, pet adoption advocates will be on-site from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with information about adoptable pets, as part of “Bark in Bitzer Park,” a program in conjunction with the library’s “explore the world of animals” promotion.  The library invites patrons to “explore the world” of a different subject matter each month, and June’s focus is animals. Showcasing animals available for adoption is just one of the many animal related events and programs the library is offering this month. Glow necklaces will be sold prior to the movie, with proceeds benefiting local animal shelters.

We’re excited to bring this program to downtown North Canton. The idea of offering programming in Bitzer Park came to us though the North Canton Master Plan, and we look forward to seeing more programming like this in the downtown area as portions of the master plan continue to become reality.

Community support for the film series has been strong, and the library is grateful for the kindness of the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of North Canton, the North Canton Community Growth Association, the North Canton YMCA and Wagoner Moving.

Should there be rain, the films will be shown inside the library at 185 North Main Street.
