Summers Are for Reading, Learning, and Fun!

Summer reading programs (with prizes!), container gardening, "So You Want to be an Entrepreneur", "We Miss Harry Potter" party, and more at the North Canton Public Library.

The North Canton Public Library is gearing up for its annual summer reading programs. This summer, special programming will be offered for children, young adults, and adults. All programs kick-off the first week of June.

 

2012 Children’s Program: Dream Big. Read.

This year's children's summer reading program is themed "Dream Big-Read," and includes many specialized and themed programs. A special Reading Record, which allows children to track their reading throughout the summer, will be available at the children’s desk on the second floor of the library beginning June 1. Children are eligible to earn prizes for the reading accomplishments they record. Details about this summer's programs for children are available in the attached PDF.

2012 Teen Program: Own the Night.

The teen summer reading program is available to young adults entering grades six through twelve. The theme this year is "Own the Night," and participants can look forward to varied programming which is sure to include some astronomy activities. Teens who participate are eligible to enter to win prizes each time they read a book and complete a review form. Prize drawings are held each week, with the last drawing occurring Monday, Aug. 13. Prizes will also be awarded for most books read, best review, and other specialty categories.  In 2011, 62 teens participated and read a total of 256 books. Registration for the Teen Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 4. 

2012 Adult Program: Own the Night.

This summer, we invite adult library patrons to check out what’s “Between the Covers” and enter to win various gift baskets and other fabulous prizes!  Similar to the teen program, participants in the program simply read books, complete brief review forms, and enter to win prizes.  Adult prize drawings will be held on Monday, August 6. The attached brochure has details about all of our summer programs for adults.

Container Gardening

Wednesday, June 6, 6:00 p.m.

Learn the secrets to container gardening success with our resident gardening librarian Cathy Morgan.  Celebrate summer and create a fabulous container garden of your very own.  All supplies will be provided by the library.  Space is limited.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult and Teen Services Desk.

 

Chef Sarah: Berry Bonanza!

Wednesday, July 11, 6:00 p.m.

Chef Sarah Mentzer returns with the third installment of her popular culinary series.  Enjoy the bounty of the harvest with a berry delicious time!  Learn ways to use berries in sweet and savory ways, and how to store and freeze them for use throughout the year.  Recipes will include Beef with Blackberry Sauce, Pork with Raspberry Reduction, Triple Berry Dessert, and more.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult and Teen Services desk beginning Monday, June 11.

 

Tech Talk with the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce

Wednesday, August 1, 11:45 a.m.

Join us for our quarterly lunch-time presentation on a current technological business topic, presented in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce.  Stop by the Adult and Teen Services department for more details.

 

So you Want to be an Entrepreneur?

Wednesday, August 22, 6:00 p.m.

Joe Rozsa, Entrepreneur in Residence for Kent State University, Walsh University and the North Canton Chamber of Commerce and award winning creative director, designer and owner of Trailer Trash Design, will share his entrepreneurial story. After many years of diverse corporate experience, and an interesting journey, he started his own design firm. Joe has found success operating under the sometimes unheard of adage that work can be fun. Using his off-the-cuff approach, he will share how he made his entrepreneurial transition, the challenges he faced, and how he ultimately defines his success.
