North Canton Entrepreneur 'Kickstarting' Her Art Business

Kim Henderson's near-death experience opened the door to a successful artistic entrepreneurship, which has been fueled by networking, social media and digital applications.

North Canton native Kim Henderson started her entrepreneurial career with MaKiKisart, a business that specializes in hand-painted glassware.

Now, with the accolades and Facebook "Likes" mounting (13,000-plus and counting), she's ready to start investing thousands of dollars in her business.

To help raise capital for her homegrown artistic venture, Henderson has turned to Kickstarter, the world's largest digital funding platform for creative projects.

She's hoping those who are interested in MaKiKisart will donate a few dollars to the artistic business borne, in part, from a near-death experience.

This process of raising capital is known as "crowdfunding," which is quickly becoming a key strategy among enterprising businessmen and women looking to liftoff local businesses.
