New Members Welcome at Toastmasters' Saturday Meeting

North Canton residents can see how Toastmasters improves skills for success in the workplace

North Canton’s small business owners and professionals can join Toastmasters to learn how to improve their communication and leadership skills at the group's next membership meeting.

The meeting, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, takes place at Creative Source Design Group and will help attendees understand how they can use their communication skills for success in the workplace.

“I joined to learn how to promote my business,” said . “It continues to develop my leadership and presentation skills.”

Loo is a North Canton resident and found that Stark Community Toastmasters helped with the success of his business, Akron Recycling Center. He also said that the club taught him how to avoid a difficult situation.

“Toastmasters helps me to speak effectively in all situations,” Loo said. “I want to make sure I communicate the most important information in the best possible way, and Toastmasters helps me with that.”

Loo said he could remember a time when he showed up to give a presentation that was different from what he had planned. He planned to give a brief presentation but was told it would have to be longer. With his training, Loo was able to stretch his presentation to fit the appropriate time.

A variety of Toastmaster clubs will attend the meeting, so guests can see how each one would fit with their schedule and personality.

"Toastmasters has something for everyone looking to improve their speaking and leadership skills,” said Paul Keyes, president of the Towpath Talkers Toastmasters club. “Through regular practice at meetings, a reserved person can learn to speak well to a group and a good speaker can become great."

Judy Edwards is a member of Stark Community Toastmasters and a Diebold retiree. She said it’s helpful to speak with a Toastmasters’ manual.

“Never speak without having a manual handy,” Edwards said. “Everything counts.”

By "everything," Edwards means managing time, evaluating others and running meetings in the workplace. In addition, the club has contests and goals for its members, giving them a competitive drive.

The membership meeting is at 4623 Everhard Road NW in Canton. For further information, contact Kim Krajci at kim.kraj@gmail.com or Dan Toussant at dan.toussant@gmail.com.
