Microtel Ravaged by Fire Reopens in Jackson Township

The grand reopening was held Wednesday and included music, catered food and presentations by hotel officials.

Microtel Inn & Suites representatives were joined by the Jackson-Belden and North Canton Chambers of Commerce on Wednesday to reopen the local hotel that was ravaged by fire last May.

Prior to cutting the ribbon, attendees enjoyed free food and music in the hotel's parking lot off Sunset Strip NW in Jackson Township.

Township fire officials said the blaze started in a mulch bed on the building's north side and traveled up the area between the interior stairwell wall and main exterior wall, which allowed the fire to spread to the attic area.

Structural damages were estimated at $2 million, while damages for contents were estimated at $200,000.
