Editor's note: A previous version of this story had Johnsen's name spelled wrong. That error has been corrected.

Dogwood Pool Lifeguard Manager Matt Johnsen has a cool summer job. During the school year he is an English teacher and swim coach at North Canton but he gets to spend more time outside at work during the summer.

He has always enjoyed swimming and started working as a lifeguard at Branhaven swim and tennis club. He said being a lifeguard is a fun but rewarding job. (You get to enjoy the outdoors while working. What's better?)

Johnsen said he would rather never have to save someone from danger in the pool than be known for saving peoples' lives. He would prefer the day was boring and he and the pool were out of the news. (We guess good news is OK.)

Johnsen said that one of the greatest pleasures he gets from his job is seeing young kids who grew up swimming in the pool move onto being lifeguards or join the swim team at the school. He really enjoys the community presence at the pool and enjoys giving back by helping to protect them.
