'Shelves of Light' Finds Permanent Home Inside North Canton Public Library

The sculpture, created by local artist Don Lundstrom, was made possible through gifts made to the North Canton Public Library Memorial and Gift Fund

of the has completed the installation of a new sculpture Shelves of Light by North Canton artist Don Lundstrom now on display in the library entrance.

A reception for the artist will take place at the library from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. December 4. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Little Art Gallery and the public is encouraged to attend. 

Shelves of Light features hand-faceted slab glass and metal construction, as well as the message, “Books Inspire. Books Enlighten. Books Entertain.”

“We’re very proud to have this piece of fine art make its home here at the library,” said library director Sandra Lang. “It’s a wonderful addition to our facility, and thousands of people every year will be able to enjoy its beauty.”

A native of Canton and a graduate of Ohio University's School of Engineering and Design, Lundstrom has evolved as a sculptor through his years in creating and casting bronzes as the owner of the Frankham Foundry.

His work is expressed in cast bronze, steel reinforced concrete, stainless steel and hand-faceted slab glass. His commissions have included works for Kent State University, Ohio University, Heidelberg College, Aultman Hospital and various libraries throughout Ohio. Lundstrom is a member of the National Sculpture Society and is a past trustee and treasurer of the Canton Museum of Art.
