Locally-Renowned Artist's Work Celebrated in Upcoming Auction

Stark State College will host a memorial art auction to feature and sell 40-plus works created by the late Bette Elliott.

The late Bette Elliott, a critically-acclaimed and award-winning artist, will be remembered this month at Stark State College when more than 40 of her realist artworks are auctioned off to the public.

The former North Cantonite's paintings have been displayed throughout the country and around the world.

She was Listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Art, and taught art at Kent State University at Stark, the Canton Museum of Art and the Little Art Gallery, said Stark senior director Rebecca Priest.

Elliott, who passed away at 91 in 2011, was an active member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and Canton Artists League, and supported the Canton Museum of Art and the North Canton Library’s Little Art Gallery, according to Irene Motts, Stark's director of marketing and communications.

"Having known (Elliott) for 25 years, I saw her art evolve over time, from realist to abstract," said Priest.

Elliott’s sons, Brady and Casey, donated 68 of her paintings to Stark State. According to Motts, more than 20 of the works will be hung in locations around the main campus and its satellites, with the remainder scheduled for the upcoming memorial auction, said Priest.

Bidding will range from $15 to $200, depending on the piece, with proceeds going toward preserving her art at the college.

The auction will run from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and will be held in Room M100 of the College’s Business & Entrepreneurial Center.
