Muggles Bring Harry Potter Characters to Life at Tinseltown

Community members dress as Harry Potter characters to celebrate the last movie of the series

As Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger mature through each passing year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so do the youth of North Canton. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 brought a now grown-up group of muggles to Tinseltown to watch the movie series come to an end.

North Canton Patch interviewed six costumed moviegoers to find out what they hoped for and why they chose their costumes.

“I feel like this is my childhood wrapping up,” said Emily Deeds. “I remember starting to read the books when I was in second grade, and now I’m graduating high school.”

Deeds dressed as a member of Hufflepuff, one of the four houses at Hogwarts, because she feels she fits the characteristics of the house. She doesn’t like to hurt the feelings of others, and she tries to have a positive attitude.

Julia Brendus - Bellatrix Lestrange

“I’ve been waiting for this day since I was in first grade,” said Julia Brendus. “It’s like the end of my childhood.”

Brendus dressed as Bellatrix Lestrange, who she feels is just as evil as Lord Voldemort. Brendus arrived an hour early for the movie and read the seventh book the night before for the third time.

Ryan Ihrig - Oliver Wood

“I’ve read every single book. I absolutely love it. It’s just a fun time,” Ryan Ihrig. “All the people here really appreciate it.”

Ihrig, dressed as Oliver Wood, said that he has high expectations for this movie because it’s the last one.

Sarah Matthews - Professor Trelawney

Sarah Matthews dressed as Proffessor Trelawney, who teaches divination at Hogwarts. Matthews said she had to dress as Trelawney, because people say she looks like her.

“I’ve been a fan since the beginning,” said Matthews. “I’m hoping the movie lives up to the book.”

Jimmy Rice - A Snitch

Some moviegoers dressed as magical objects, like Jimmy Rice, who was dressed as a snitch, a magical ball used in a game called Quidditich.

“I thought it would fun, and I like Harry Potter,” Rice said.

Spencer Aldridge - A Mandrake

Although Spencer Aldridge likes Professor Snape, he dressed up as a mandrake, a magical plant with a root that looks like a human. Spencer’s favorite of all the movies is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He said he likes it because it’s different than the rest of the movies. It’s not an average school year, he said.
