From Broadway to North Canton: 'Shrek the Musical' Opening This Weekend

The popular musical, inspired by the DreamWorks hit "Shrek," will run at the North Canton Playhouse from Aug. 2-18.

Everyone's favorite oversized ogre, along with his gang of misfit fairytale creatures, are headed to the North Canton Playhouse this weekend for "Shrek the Musical."

The popular Broadway production, inspired by the Dreamworks hit "Shrek," was adapted to the North Canton stage by director Brenton Cochran, and will feature intricate scenery, costumes and make-up, dance sequences and all-new songs.

"Each colorfully-dressed cast member will bring multitudes of energy to the show," said Cochran. "This is the first time 'Shrek the Musical' has come to the Akron area. . .and we're really going to engage audiences with the unique set design and dazzling colors."

The show opens Aug. 2 and runs through Aug. 18, according to northcantonplayhouse.com.

Productions will be held at the North Canton Playhouse main stage, located at 525 7th St. NE. 

Tickets:

  • $13 adults; $12 seniors and students (5 and up).
Showtimes:
  • Fridays at 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. and  8:00 p.m.; and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
