Whiz Kids: Orchard Hill Elementary Fourth-Graders Celebrate Ohio (With Slideshow)

Orchard Hill Elementary fourth-graders took a day to celebrate the Buckeye State. They also learned some pretty interesting facts about what makes Ohio unique. So, if you ever need any help on Ohio history, you know who to ask.

This week's Whiz Kids come to us from Brenda Triner, a fourth-grade teacher at

  • Orchard Hill Elementary fourth-graders.
  • Last Thursday, they walked to Price Park for a celebration of Ohio.
  • They made their own T-shirts that symbolize what makes Ohio unique.
  • While at Price Park, they learned interesting facts through activities, such as a popcorn relay, an apple relay and an obstacle course. They also made paper airplanes, memorized state symbols, made ladybugs, pinwheels and decorated cookies. Looks like these fourth-graders know how to have some fun, while learning.

"I am so proud of the effort our students have put forth this year as we have studied the geography, history and culture of the great state of Ohio," Triner said. "Our Walk-Across-Ohio project has been an annual tradition for many years at Orchard Hill."

The name of the project came from the distance they traveled as a collective group. It is approximately 220 miles across Ohio. The distance the group traveled was even further than that, so they "walked across Ohio" as a group, Triner said.
