Whiz Kid: Sierra Thayer Wins Bug Award

It's always nice to see young kids overcome challenges. Our Whiz Kid, Sierra Thayer, doesn't let much get her down

This week’s Whiz Kid comes to us from Holly Sausman, stepmom of Sierra Thayer.

  • Sierra Thayer, 10
  • Sierra will attend as a fifth-grader this fall.

Sausman is proud of Sierra’s caring and helpful attitude. Sierra is always helping other people and animals as well.

There was a new kid in Sierra’s class last year, and Sierra took the time to show her around and be a friend to her, Sausman said.

Sierra also won the Bug Award twice during the last school year.

Bring Up Grades, or BUG, is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next.

Sierra struggled in a few subjects, but not one to give up, she worked hard to understand her weaknesses and excel in subjects that she found challenging.

“I am proud of her because she never gives up, and I love her so much,” Sausman said.

All kids have something unique about them. What's unique about your kid? Anybody can nominate a Whiz Kid and even a group of kids as well. Email Lisa Lynch-Frank at lynch821@gmail.com with the name, key to awesomeness, a quote on why you're proud and a photo. It's very simple and takes 10 minutes of your time but is a great way to tell our youth how awesome they are!
