Whiz Kid: Misha Lee to Study Persian in Tajikistan
Misha isn't afraid to step out of her comfort zone and experience life in developing countries. Her love of language and desire to help others is impressive
This week's comes to us from Amy Cobaugh, mother of Misha Lee.
- Misha Lee, 18.
- Misha lives in North Canton with her parents and four siblings. She has been home-schooled since she was 12 and attended Fieldcrest Montessori, and has taken classes at Stark State College.
- She participated in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and went to India for 10 months for the 2009-2010 school year.
Misha recently won a scholarship from the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) to study Persian in Tajikistan for six weeks this summer. (NSLI-Y is a government program.)
The goals of the NSLI-Y program include sparking a lifelong interest in foreign languages and cultures, and developing a corps of young Americans with the skills necessary to advance international dialogue in the private, academic or government sectors, building upon the foundations developed through person-to-person relationships.

"I am proud of Misha because she is adventurous and brave enough to go to developing countries and experience cultures that are different from her own," Cobaugh said. "She plans on becoming a physician and work with an international medical organization that provides free health services to developing countries."
