Viewfinder: Dogwood Pool Opens

North Canton's Dogwood Pool opened this week. We went to see who showed up to beat the heat!

North Canton opens Dogwood Pool every year on the day following Memorial Day. The pool has swimming areas ranging from 3-5 feet deep in the main area and is as deep as 12 feet in the diving board area. The pool is one of the few pools left with a 3-meter-high diving board, and it's pretty popular with swimmers. There's also a 1-meter board, tube water slides and a water spray park for kids.

The pool has daily and season passes with discounts for residents of North Canton. It's open until late August from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Swimmers of all ages use the pool, especially around the July 4 weekend. More than 1,000 people came last July 4, which was close to the all-time record for the pool.

Many lifeguards keep an eye on the swimmers at all times. There's a 15-minute break for kids once an hour, during which adults can still swim. Lifeguards will close the pool in cases of inclement weather for one half hour at a time until it is safe to swim.
