Registration Begins for Wishes Can Happen Golf Scramble

Sanctuary Golf Club will host the fundraiser for the local organization that grants wishes for children with serious health conditions

Canton residents and Linda Lippert co-founded in 1982. The sole purpose of the organization is to bring special times to local children facing life-threatening illnesses. It is entirely donor-supported.

Geoff Lewis, Wishes Can Happen president, met Morrow at a business seminar five years ago and the golf scramble to benefit the charity organization was born.

"I had already done a couple golf outing fundraisers for another cause, but once I heard her story I was hooked," Lewis said.

June 3 will mark the organization's fifth annual golf scramble, sponsored mainly by Signature Mortgage, and Lewis has been a part of every one.

"We hope to attract well over 100 golfers for the day, and it would be wonderful to raise at least $10,000 and help at least 30 area kids this year," Lewis said.

General Manager Dixie Lee feels privileged to host the Wishes Can Happen event every year.

"It is one of my favorite outings of the year and an amazing experience to be a part of," Lee said.

"When the kids that benefit or their parents come speak at the dinner, there is not a dry eye in the place," Lee added.

The golf scramble starts at 9 a.m. with a participation fee of $75 per person or $300 per foursome. Besides golf, meals (prepared by Loby's Bar & Grille) and beverage are provided all day long. There are first- and second-place prizes in addition to longest drive and closest to the pin.
