Patch Picks: The Best Places to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Every year we all turn Irish for a day. We've got five great places in the North Canton area to enjoy yourself

1. Irish Exchange, 3824 Tuscarawas St. W in Canton, has to top the list for St. Patrick's Day. It is Canton's original Irish pub-style restaurant. You are encouraged to come partake in green beer, a mainstay of any St. Patrick's Day celebration. Other Irish-themed beverages are also available. Irish Exchange is open for lunch and dinner on St. Patrick's Day. They are famous for chicken wings and homemade Irish onion and Irish potato soups. For more information, call 330-478-1005.

2. The 356th Fighter Group, 4919 Mt. Pleasant Road in North Canton, welcomes WNIR radio personality Stan Piatt to lead its St. Patrick's Day celebration. There will be free food from 6-8 p.m. in the lounge, including corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread. The Midnite Special Band will perform. Cover charge is $5. 3. Legends Sports Pub and Grille in Green, 1840 Town Park Boulevard, Uniontown, will combine its annual St. Patrick's Day celebration and NCAA basketball March Madness. You can enjoy the traditional Irish fare of Killian's and Irish car bombs along with corned beef sandwiches. Basketball specials include buckets of beer (five for $10) and the "Full Court Special" which is a bucket of wings and bucket of beers for $25. For more information, call 330-896-4433.

4. The Celtic Fire St. Patrick's Day Celebration at Tangier Restaurant, 532 W. Market St. in Akron, features the "Blarney Stone Buffet" featuring traditional favorites such as carved corned beef, Irish stew, beer-batter fish and chips, Irish "Colcannon" (mashed potatoes, cabbage and carrots), braised cabbage, Irish soda bread and bread pudding. The buffet is $12 per person. Reservations are suggested by calling 330-376-7171.

5. Old 97 Cafe, 1503 Kenmore Boulevard in Akron, presents live Irish music from 7:30 p.m. on into the night. Celtic beer specials and Irish food, song and dance will be part of their St. Patrick's Day celebration. There will also be an Irish trivia contest to test your history and memory skills.
