North Canton YMCA Child Care Center Celebrates Grand Opening

The $2 million, 16,000-square-foot center will bring 200-plus North Canton area children under one roof.

The $2 million North Canton YMCA Child Care Center opened its doors Aug. 20 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and invited the public to come in and take a peek.

The 16,000-square-foot building will house 200-plus children from birth to eighth grade, and, according to YMCA Child Care Director Julie Daugherty, the new kitchen will feed at least 100 kids per day.

The interior is modern and spacious, and the color palette offers natural and neutral tones to simulate a homier atmosphere, said Daugherty.

The advantage of the new space will be to bring all of the YMCA Child Care Center's kids and resources under one roof to create a better learning and recreational environment, she said.

According to Kathy Yaros, communications director for the North Canton YMCA, the staff and students will begin to use the building in about two weeks after a few more inspections are completed by the North Canton Fire Department.

Since construction began this past spring, YMCA officials have worked with contractors from St. Clair-Pavlis Group and architects from SoL Harris/Day to design and build the new center, located at the corner of North Main Street and Charlotte Avenue NW, said Craig Greenlee, vice president of operations at the YMCA of Central Stark County.
