North Canton Jaycees 60th Annual Fair Starts Today

The Jaycee Fair has been a longstanding tradition in North Canton, but this year there will be some new events as well as some favorites from previous years

It seems the Jaycee Fair gets better with age. This year's fair will highlight some new events and also bring back a tradition from the past, a Jaycee Princess Pageant.

Amy Krebs, external vice president of the North Canton Jaycees, said they are excited to bring the Jaycee Princess Pageant back. The contest is open to girls in grades kindergarten through third grade (5-9 years old) and includes a talent competition, a formal dress competition and a short Q&A with the contestants. Find more information about the pagaent on the Jaycees' website.

The fair will have its staple attractions that include food, rides, and the game tent, which helps support Jaycee community events.

Krebs feels that the Jaycee Fair is an important event for the community.

"This is an annual event that has been in North Canton for years," she said. "It's an event that has become a tradition for lots of folks in the community and surrounding areas to visit each year."

Along with the traditional fair-like activities, there will be a family night that will include the cast from The Wizard of Oz from the Players Guild. The Jaycee Fair will also host the first annual cornhole tournament. And for all you '80s music fans, (come on, we all have a favorite song from the '80s) you'll be happy to see New Wave Nation, a 1980s tribute band, take the stage.

"The fair is terrific because it is such a historic, annual event in North Canton," said North Canton Jaycee Chairwoman Jennifer Reider. "It brings adults and kids together to eat, play and relax. We, as Jaycees, treasure this event and enjoy the work that goes into it before, during and after the fair."

The fair is from June 13-18 in the parking lot of the North Canton Memorial Stadium on 7th Street. Fair hours are 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 6 p.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday.
