Child Stops Breathing On I-90 Ramp, No One Stops to Help

When Avon Lake’s Dawn Johnson saw her 7-year-old son Alexander having a grand mal seizure while driving eastbound on I-90 on their way shopping Aug. 22, she did what needed to be done to save his life: She took the Crocker-Bassett exit in Westlake and pulled over.

But later on it hit her: “You see, as my son’s lifeless body lay on the side of the exit ramp, needing us to breathe for him, not one single person stopped to inquire if we needed assistance. NOT ONE!”


Strongsville Police Train for Active Shooters

The former Allen School building is getting one last workout before the wrecking crews come in.

Strongsville police used the building this week for training — specifically for Single Officer Response to Active Threat training.

Deputy Chief Mark Fender said the sessions simulate a situation in which an officer has to deal with an active shooter in a public place like a mall or a school. "You may be the only person and you have to go in," Fender said.


Shaker Heights Bank Robbed At Gunpoint

Authorities are asking for the public’s help tracking down a suspect accused robbing a Shaker Heights bank at gunpoint,reports Patch news partner WEWS News Channel 5.

The FBI said the Citizens Bank located at 3505 Lee Road in Shaker Heights was robbed just before 10:30 Wednesday morning.

The suspect the teller to place money from her drawer into the bag he provided and then fled the bank with the bag, according to the FBI. No injuries were reported.

CH-UH School Officials: Report Card Results Show 'Consistent Performance'

Cleveland Heights - University Heights School District officials say the new report card results show "consistent performance" but the results are not where the district wants to be.

The new report cards rate schools in nine different areas and districts will receive an A through F grade for each. While the district received Fs in three of the nine categories, the district also received four As. See the full results here.


Man Struck By Car on Infamously Dangerous Crosswalk in Lakewood

Those who use the crosswalk at Manor Park and Detroit Avenue told Lakewood Patch just a couple weeks ago that it was “only a matter of time” before someone was hit by a car while crossing the street.

That time came on Wednesday morning, when a vehicle struck an elderly man trying to cross the busy street.

Akron Man Indicted in Rape of Stow Teen

An Akron man and convicted sex offender charged this summer in the rape of a 15-year-old Stow girl has been indicted by the Summit County grand jury.

According to court information filed Monday, Darryl D. Johnson, 37, has been indicted on one count of rape, a first-degree felony, one count of unlawful sexual conduct, a third-degree felony, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony.


CityFest Parade Marches Through Mentor

Mentor's CityFest Parade had room for everybody—band membersstate basketball champions, boy scouts, cute dogs and flash mobs.

The parade kicked off at Veterans Park and traveled to Civic Center Boulevard, into CityFest near city hall.

Highland Heights Police Earn Top Accreditation

Nearly four years ago, the Highland Heights Police Department decided it needed high standards to measure its performance.

That's when the department first sent an application to theCommission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Billing itself the "gold standard for public safety," CALEA recognizes agencies across the country who have met nearly 200 standards of operation. This summer, Highland Heights was re-assessed and given accreditation by Gainesville, Va.-based CALEA.
