Local AMA Chapter to Host Winter Wonderland Silent Auction Tuesday

The silent auction, held at the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant, will feature donated items and gift cards from local businesses and will benefit Akron Children's Hospital

The folks at the Akron/Canton chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) are making it ridiculously easy to give back and get something in return this holiday season.

The group will host the Winter Wonderland Silent Auction at the at 6 p.m. Tuesday. You'll be able to bid on a few gifts for yourself, friends and loved ones, and your contributions help the kids at Akron Children's Hospital.

"We wanted to have an event to celebrate the holidays not only with our members but also with the community,” said , president of the Akron/Canton American Marketing Association. “The association is about celebrating professional development and giving back to your community, and I feel this event helps us do just that.”

Schweigert said half of proceeds go to Akron Children's Hospital and the other half will help the group with its programming. AMA members felt the holiday season was an important time to give back to children, especially those who will spend their holidays in the hospital, she said.

Auction items include gift cards from nearby restaurants and shops, including Bravo, Milk and Honey and Heggy's. Others who've donated include the Canton Palace Theatre and Gasser Jewelers, which donated one piece and 20 to auction on consignment. Better Financial Solutions donated $300 in gift cards and other items, while Buehler Food Market donated $50 in gift certificates. Tina Slusser-Ley photography gave a coupon for $250 off any $600 purchase.

“We’re hoping this event will raise a considerable amount, so we can help Akron Children’s Hospital with their needs,” said Patrick Jebber, Akron/Canton American Marketing Association president-elect. “It would be nice to know that we helped to improve a child’s holiday.”

"I just think it's really important, especially at this time of year, to come together and celebrate the hospital and celebrate professional development and give back to a charity that's going to need it," Schweigert said.
