Grab & Go Kids Planner: See 'Les Miserables,' Address Safety Issues With Your Kids

Experience the Canton Garden Center, among other area events this week

Our weekly Grab & Go calendar focuses on fun, educational and physical fitness activities for the family that are taking place in North Canton or in close proximity. We suggest five happenings each Wednesday that are a “must” to do with the kiddos.

Pick and choose from this week’s array of highlighted happenings: a kid-friendly theatrical performance, an educational event on safety, a program to get you grooving with your little one, a children’s program at the Canton Garden Center and a new art display.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. Les Miserables – School Edition


When/Where:  Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the . (FYI, the North Canton Playhouse won the award for best live performance at Friday's in Navarre.)

Why Go: The whole family can reflect on the struggles that took place in France during the 19th Century in this classic musical about a man who leaves behind his life of crime for integrity.

2. Safe Kids Day    

When/Where: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Stark Parks' Exploration Gateway, 5712 12th St. NW, Canton

Why Go: Parents and children from ages 1 to 12 will engage together in safety stations. The event focuses on home, sports, car, fire, animal, stranger and Internet safety.

3. Creative Movement

When/Where: 10-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Perry Sippo Library Branch, 5710 12th St. NW, Canton

Why Go:  Barb Craven, owner of Craven Dance Studio, will get you and your youngster, newborn to 5 years old, moving to the beat during this activity.

Pricing: The event is free but registration is requested. To register call 330-477-8482 or do so online.

4. Mother Goose and Her Helpers       

When/Where: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday by the pergola of the Canton Garden Center, 1615 Stadium Park NW, Canton

Why Go: Children 3 and up, accompanied by a parent, can participate in this educational and entertaining program in the Children’s Garden of the Garden Center. After the program is over, tour the grounds to take in the beauty of all the gardens.

5. Art from the Classroom: Elementary Schools

When/Where: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday at

Why Go: Be some of the first families to view the next installment of artwork in the Gallery. The art is the creation of local elementary school students.
