Grab & Go Kids Planner: Ideas for a Jam-Packed Saturday

Families can learn about severe weather, dinosaurs and worms locally this weekend

We are pleased you are reviewing our "Grab & Go Kids Planner," which recommends five events and attractions to check out with your family. These activities are happening right in North Canton or in close striking distance and can provide you and your kiddos with something fun to participate in together this weekend.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

We have a number of exciting and educational ideas so you can spend Saturday doing at least one activity as a family! You also have one last chance to see The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White this weekend.

1. Weather talk with meteorologist Dick Goddard

When/Where: 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Lake Community Branch, 11955 Market Ave. N, Uniontown

Why Go: Children of all ages can observe Severe Weather Awareness Week with renowned meteorologist Dick Goddard of Fox 8, who has been delivering the forecast in Cleveland for the past 40 years. Click here to read Goddard’s biography. The “Tornado Man” will be present, as well, to help kids create their own tornado to take home. What an exciting way to learn about the weather and the safety precautions to take during a thunderstorm.

2. Dinosaur Party

When/Where: 10-10:30 a.m. March 19 at the

Why Go: Children ages 3-5 along with a parent will get to learn about and celebrate dinosaurs through exciting activities.

3. The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White

When/where: Show times are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the .

Why Go: This is the last weekend to see the show that brings the tale of Snow White to life when a mother reads the Brothers Grimm story to her restless children. This youth musical, full of comedic twists, features the evil queen and dwarfs, as well as some new characters. The entire family is sure to enjoy the numerous musical styles part of the production!

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie Event

When/Where: 2 p.m. Saturday at on The Strip

Why Go: Kids ages 8-12 are invited, with their parents, to gear up for the release of the new movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, in theaters March 25.  Those who attend the event can participate in a trivia contest, games, Wimpy Kid activities and more. Fans of the book series even can submit their own book review for possible publication at www.Borders.com.

5. Full Moon Hike

When/Where: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Petros Lake Park

Why Go: Families with children in 3rd grade and up are invited by Stark Parks to meet at the Pond Shelter for a discussion about the March moon, known as the Worm Moon. Those who come will hike the 1.2-mile Loop Trail, by the light of the full moon, to learn about the history of worms. You may bring a flashlight, but its use will be limited. The park is located at 5100 Block Perry Dr. SW, Canton. This really sounds like a spectacular evening adventure!
