Grab & Go Kids Planner: Entertain 'Em at Enshrinement Events

Fireworks, hot air balloons, a parade and much more

What a fun time it is to be a resident of North Canton and Canton! There is so much to do with the family during the 11 days of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival. We have three festival happenings highlighted below for you.

We also suggest attending an exciting event for kids at the Akron Zoo Saturday and a special storytelling time for young children at  Monday.

1. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Concert & Fireworks

When/Where: 6 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Thursday in downtown Canton, along Walnut and Tuscarawas streets

Why Go: Have fun with the family while celebrating the start of the festival. Children will enjoy appearances by costumed characters, face painting and craft making. The event also will include musical performances and good eats. A fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. Zambelli Fireworks will shoot off the musically choreographed display over downtown.

Pricing: Free admission

Why Go: Watch as 65 hot air balloons take flight at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The three-day event also will include a plethora of food vendors, live music, children’s activities, the illumination of the balloons at 9:45 p.m. each night and a firework display at 10 p.m. Saturday. The event will wrap up at 6:30 a.m. Sunday with a final balloon launch. Click here for a complete schedule of events.

Pricing: Admission to the event is free, but parking is $5.

3. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Community Parade

When/Where: 2:30 p.m. Sunday in downtown Canton

Why Go: View a true community parade featuring marching bands, floats, area youth groups, specialty units, antique vehicles and a giant helium balloon. The parade will begin at Market and 11th streets and head toward the revitalized portion of downtown.

4. Princess & Pirate Night and Snooze at the Zoo

When/Where: 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at the Akron Zoo

Why Go: Children should wear their own princess gowns and pirate outfits to look for “treasures” around the zoo. There will be bouncy houses, crafts and face painting. Families also can spend the night at the zoo. For more information and to make reservations for the sleepover, contact the zoo at 330-475-2550.

Pricing: The cost is $12 for adults and $14 for children who are non-members of the zoo and $7 for adults and $9 for children who are zoo members.

5. Tales in Thyme Storytelling   

When/Where: 10-11 a.m. Monday on the campus of

Why Go: Local children’s librarians will present a time of interactive storytelling on the patio adjacent to the Banquet Hall inside Walsh University’s Hoover Park. Light refreshments also will be served.
