Grab & Go: Fourth of July Fun for All

We flagged some area events you will want to include among your festivities this week

It's time to fire up the grill, grab the sparklers and celebrate the Fourth of July! Have an extra “Star-Spangled” week with your family in and around North Canton at these highlighted events. 

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK:

1. Patriotic Craft Time  

Find out what's happening in North Cantonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

When/Where: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dehoff Memorial Branch of the Stark County Library, 216 Hartford Ave. NW, Canton

Why Go: Children, up to fifth grade, will enjoy making a neat America-inspired art project parents proudly can display during their Fourth of July picnic!

Pricing: The activity is free, but registration is requested. Register online or call 330-452-9014.  

 2. Rib, White and Blue – Akron’s National Rib Festival

When/Where: Friday through Monday at Akron’s Lock 3 on S. Main Street in downtown

Why Go: The event will include fair rides, inflatable jumpers, a train ride through the park, food vendors and, of course, ribs. Also enjoy free concerts by tribute bands all four evenings. The event fires up each day by noon. A fireworks display will close out the event at 9:45 p.m. Monday. Click here for a complete list of activities and an entertainment schedule.

Pricing: Admission is free, but there is a fee for the rides.

3. Canton First Friday – Chalk the Walk

When/Where: 6-10 p.m. Friday in the downtown art district of Canton at Court Avenue NW and 4th Street NW

Why Go: Come and watch as more than 20 area chalk artists transform sidewalks and street sections into beautiful masterpieces. The downtown galleries will be open to view artwork. The event also will feature street performances by various entertainers.

Pricing: Free

4. The 34th Annual July 4th Race  

When/Where: 8 a.m. Monday at the on South Main Street in North Canton

Why Go: Join Stark County’s biggest and oldest race as a family or come out to cheer on the participants. Avid runners, beginners, seniors and children all are welcome to take part in the two-mile or five-mile race.

Pricing: The cost, before July 1, is $22 per individual and $70 a family. Click here for more information and to register.  

5. North Canton Jaycees Celebration in the Park    

When/Where: Parade is at 10:30 a.m. Monday and park festivities begin at 6 p.m.

Why Go: The North Canton Jaycees invite area residents to their . The Fourth of July will kick off in North Canton with a parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade will leave from Memorial Stadium and head west on Main Street. The party will continue at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The event will feature live entertainment, food vendors and a fireworks display at dusk.

Pricing: Entry into the event area is free.
