Check out these family-friendly happenings coming up just a short drive away from North Canton, and extend your summer fun without venturing too far from home.

1. Movie on the Course

When/Where: The movie will be shown at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Legends of Massillon Golf Course, 2700 Augusta Drive SE, Massillon
Why Go: Bring your own blanket and lawn chairs to watch Goonies with your family on the big screen and under the stars.

Pricing: The cost is $5 for a family of four or $2 a person. Children 2 and under are free.
When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at the David YMCA, 7389 Caritas Circle NW, Massillon
Why Go: Encourage your child to stay healthy through exercise. Kids 12 and under are invited to take part in the YMCA’s 1,000-meter or 1-mile race for boys and girls. All participants will receive a ribbon, and the top three finishers in each race will receive a medal. Healthy snacks will be provided, too.
Pricing: A $5 donation per child to the David YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is suggested.
3. Saturday Morning Program
When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday at the
Why Go: Especially for children ages 3 to 6, the program gives youngsters a fun taste of the library and all it has to offer. This is the last Saturday for this summer program.
Pricing: Free
4. The Great Lakes Medieval Faire and Marketplace
When/Where: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 3303 State Route 534, Rock Creek. Click here for driving directions from North Canton.
Why Go: The 13th Century, family-fun theme park features period entertainment, rides, games, food and juried crafts and artisans. It is a unique experience those of all ages are sure to enjoy.
Pricing: This weekend only, with the purchase of an adult ticket, get tickets for up to five children 12 and under for free. An adult ticket is $22 at the gate. Typically, a child’s ticket is $5.95 at the gate, so this is the weekend to go most reasonably. Parking is free.
When/Where: Tuesday through July 31 at the Summit County Fair Grounds, 229 E. Howe Road, Tallmadge
Why Go: The whole family will enjoy all the fair has to offer, including animal shows, rides, food, crafts, contests, entertainment and more. See the complete schedule of events for each day of the fair.
Pricing: Admission to the grounds is $6 per person. Children, 8 and under, are free. Grandstand events are $6 a person, and children 2 and under are free.
