Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting Ceremony to Brighten Downtown Sunday

The ceremony takes place at Bitzer Park

It's time to don your Santa hat or elf ears and make your way to Bitzer Park and the Hoover Company lawn for a night of Christmas festivities.

The is hosting the Community Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Families can enjoy entertainment, ice sculptures, refreshments, a tribute to veterans and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

Accompanying activities throughout the day will also take place at the and inside the chamber office at 121 S. Main Street.

For the first time, Char Graham from KID-FIT, will lead children in a one-song performance with Hi-Lo’s and holiday movie shorts will be shown at the YMCA before and after the tree lighting. 

Additionally, community members are invited to light a candle in honor of veterans or active reserve members thanks to volunteers from the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. and Solid Rock Therapeutic Riding Center.

Refreshments will be available from , St. Paul’s LifeTeen Group and the North Canton Jaycees. 

“The Annual Christmas Sing has been a part of the North Canton community for decades," said Doug Lane, president of the chamber. "The event has expanded from gathering around the tree on the Hoover lawn to extra activities at Bitzer Park. It is one of the many family-focused things that make North Canton the special place it is.”

Please note: East Maple Street will be closed between Main and McKinley beginning at 2:45 p.m. and the curb lane of North Main will be closed during the major activities.

"Young and old alike enjoy the ice sculpting, the children are excited to see Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on a fire truck and see the city tree lit after the Mayor counts down with the crowd," Lane said. "Everyone enjoys gathering to hear the Hoover singers and bring in the season with friends and family."

Here is the activity schedule:

2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Cookies with Mrs. Claus (paid YMCA event – requires pre-registration)

3:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: Ice sculpting in Bitzer Park

4 p.m.-5 p.m.: North Canton Public Library therapy dog, Major will be at the Chamber office and ready for children to read Christmas stories to him

4 p.m.-5 p.m.: Crafts at the YMCA –ornaments with Glazed and Amused ($6), holiday card making (free)

4 p.m.-7 p.m.: Light a candle for a veteran at NC Veterans Memorial

4:30 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: Holiday movie shorts shown at YMCA (free)

5:15 p.m.: Program begins in Bitzer Park featuring entertainment from the Hoover High School Hi-Lo’s (includes children sing-a-long), Santa and Mrs. Claus’s arrival on a North Canton fire truck, and lighting of the City’s tree by Mayor Held. Westfield Bank will provide battery-operated candles for families.

Following the program, Santa will visit with children at the YMCA

6:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m.: Holiday movie shorts shown at YMCA (with popcorn and hot cocoa)
