Around the Patch: Kent State Student Saves Girl From River and More

Kent State University student Eric Johnston saved a little girl from the Cuyahoga River Sunday, but that's not all that happened in surrounding Patches this week

1. Kent Patch

Kent Patch was filled with tales of heroism Tuesday — but we're talking the real heroes, not like the "men in tights" kind we mentioned in ." The tale? Kent State University student Sunday afternoon.

"Me and a group of friends decided to go down and walk by the river since it was nice out (Sunday)," Johnston said. "My friend John and I were standing on top of the dam there and I saw the little girl fall in backwards. The only thing I could manage to get out at that point was ‘girl in the water!’”

2. Hillcrest Patch

If we had a nickel for every time someone complained about shrinking newspapers ... Well, we'd be rich. But a Mayfield Heights resident in the Hillcrest Patch . (That really must be one heckuva paper.) Anyway, police didn't buy it. Are you surprised?

4. Cleveland Heights Patch

We're not sure what to say to make this video sound any cooler than it already is. It's of the . Cleveland Heights resident Alex Madorsky, who didn't expect to compete that day but ended up walking away with a second-place trophy. He says the event might have opened up a lucrative samosa-eating career for him. (Good luck with that, Alex!)
