Adam Besenyodi Shares His Rediscovered Love of Comic Books

Besenyodi, who recently visited the North Canton Public Library, rediscovered his love of comic books and shares that experience in his book "Deux ex Comica: The Rebirth of a Comic Book Fan"

Not all childhood hobbies can be resurrected quite the way Adam Besenyodi’s was. For the Copley resident, escaping into the world of comic books is timeless.

Besenyodi, who recently visited the to give a presentation, rediscovered his love of comic books years after he gave them up. He’s recounted his story in the book Deux ex Comica: The Rebirth of a Comic Book Fan.

Besenyodi collected comic books as a child of the ’80s and then, once he hit high school, the childhood hobby drifted away and was replaced by high school, girls and other distractions, he said.

It wasn’t until a few years ago that Besenyodi picked up a beloved comic book again and felt that same excitement about them he had when he was a kid.

“It snowballed from there, and I started picking up current issues,” he said.

Reading a comic book as a child as opposed to as an adult is pretty different, he said.

“I take away something different now than when I was a kid.”

Deux ex Comica, which Besenyodi wrote in 2008, also touches on his experiences in sharing his hobby with his 10-year-old son and “seeing and discovering comics through his eyes as well.”

He said there might be people just like him who’ve fallen out of touch with comics, and reading his book or hearing him speak at local venues may spark an interest in them again.

When asked what he wants his readers to take away from his book, Besenyodi said, “Hopefully that comics are fun and that they’re still out there.”
