2013 Jaycee Fair Gearing up in North Canton

The annual fair runs from June 10-15.

Carnival games, gambling, amusement park rides, funnel cakes and more await folks of all ages at this year's Jaycee Fair.

The annual event, which kicked off June 10 in the Memorial Stadium Parking lot, provides a little something for everyone, but more importantly, the money it generates funds several Jaycee projects, including the North Canton Special Olympics, Safety Town and the Celebration in the Park, said Jaycee Fair Chairman Jamie McCleaster.

“I’ve lived in North Canton my entire life, and have been going to the Jaycee Fair since I was a kid," he said. "I’m honored to be the Chairman of this event ... an event to me that always marked the beginning of summer.”

North Canton City Councilman Jeff Peters (Ward 2) has been looking forward to the fair almost as much as his children.

"(My kids) have been doing chores around the house for the last month saving money (for the carnival rides)," said Peters. "I love it, we've been going for years."

The only noticeable attraction missing this year is the princess pageant, McCleaster noted.

Fair hours are Monday through Thursday 6-11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 6 p.m. to midnight.

The gambling tent is set to open Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, but attendees will need to purchase tickets or handstamps for the amusement rides.
