Donation of New or Used Items Sought to Support Inaugural 'Stark County Day of Giving Marketplace' in Canton

Donations of new or like-new merchandise will be accepted on Saturday, Aug. 10, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the corporate and retail plaza at 3939 Everhard Rd. NW in Canton, in preparation for a community fundraising event to take place there in September.


The inaugural “Stark County Day of Giving Marketplace” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the plaza. The sale will be open to the public and will benefit The Granted Wish Foundation and the J.R. Coleman Adult Day Care Center, both based in Stark County.

“We’re looking for quality merchandise, items that will appeal to shoppers just like products they would find in retail stores,” said Karen Shackelford, chairperson for the Marketplace. “Our goal is to enable low-income families to purchase quality items at the lowest possible prices, while raising funds and awareness that will assist The Granted Wish Foundation with its work on behalf of children in need.”

The Aug. 10 donation day will feature a live DJ, hot dogs and other refreshments, and free face painting and balloon animals for the kids. Coupons from TGD restaurant will be available, and Q92 radio is scheduled to do a live remote.

Donations of quality merchandise will be welcomed from individuals and businesses. Organizers will gratefully accept everything from household items and clothing to sporting goods and furniture, but request that no televisions, computers or major appliances be donated.

 

Subsequent donation days at the same location will be held as follows:  Thursdays and Fridays, Aug. 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 from 12 noon to 7 p.m., and Saturdays Aug. 17, 24 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Items collected will be sold at bargain prices at the Stark County Day of Giving Marketplace on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The sale will take place at the former Amish World store.

The Granted Wish Foundation is based in Canton and provides wishes to enrich the lives of physically challenged youth. The foundation is a non-profit organization registered with the State of Ohio and has been granted IRC 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by the IRS.
