Stark County District Library also presents numerous informative, enriching, and entertaining programs for all ages. This week’s schedule includes genealogy programs to celebrate Family History Month, as well as Writer’s Groups, Job Search Help, a performance from the super cool Wizard Rockers, Whomping Willows, and much more.

Author, education expert, and syndicated writer Diana Boggia will discuss her new book, Parenting with a Purpose as well as techniques for bringing out the best in your child on Tuesday, October 16 at North Branch. Books will be available for sale at the event.
Teen Read Week Art Contests will be held at Stark County District Library branches all week. Teens can celebrate Teen Read Week by creating art…That Came From the Library. The library will have supplies to make art, such as discarded books and comic books, book covers, and discarded CDs. Teen have only to supply their creativity and make something cool. Entry forms are available at any branch of SCDL, or online at this link.
East Canton Branch’s ongoing Women’s Writers Circle meets on Tuesdays throughout the fall (the next two meetings are October 16, and 23). Everyone has a story to tell. Join our women’s writers circle to share and get advice on bringing your memories to life through the written word. Additionally, if you are working on a novel, or are interested in starting your memoirs, or short stories, or poems, you can join North Branch’s Writers Group, which meets again on Thursday, October 18. Share you work with other writers and get constructive criticism and encouragement.
The David YMCA of Jackson Township will present Senior Stretch and Yoga at Perry Sippo Branch on Friday, October 19. Learn simple postures you can do at home to stretch your entire body. There will be easy-to-follow options for chair and floor postures. Bring a mat or a large towel. Namaste!
SCDL will host two programs for job-seekers in the near future. On Wednesday, October 17, adults and teens entering the job market can get useful tips for dressing professionally at North Branch. At Dress for Success, representatives from Another Look Consignment Shop will help you look your best during your job search. They’ll have suggestions for men and women, and they’ll offer advice on makeup too. And, on Tuesday, October 23 Employment Source representative Amy Miller will visit DeHoff Memorial Branch to offer job-seekers strategies for finding and keeping a job.
On Thursday, October 18, Perry Sippo Branch will host Homeowner Information Class, a free program presented by attorneys and sponsored by Community Legal Aid and the Stark County Bar Association. They’ll be available to help answer questions you may have about how to be considered for loan modifications, how foreclosure works, how to obtain free legal help, and more. Harry Potter-inspired rockers, Whomping Willows will perform a free concert for all ages at Main Library on Friday, October 19. Singer-songwriter Lauren Fairweather will also be performing her crowd-pleasing brand of Potter-inspired rock. So put on your best Hogwart’s finery, tune up your wand, and enjoy some awesome wizard rock.
On Saturday, October 20, you can sample delicious Asian food at Adventures in Asian Culture and Cuisine. Chefs from Jasmine Asian Bistro will visit Main Library to cook and explain the culture significance of various popular Asian foods.
Celebrate Family History Month this week at the Lake Community and Jackson Township Branches. On Saturday, October 20, Lake Community Branch will present Tracing Your Stark Ancestors Using Land Records during Session 1 from 1:00-2:30 pm, and during Session II from 3:00-4:30 pm you can learn how to use Family Search and Ancestry.com. Jackson Township Branch will present Pre-1820 Ohio Records on Monday, October 22. And, coming on October 27 Main Library will host the 3rd Annual Diggin’ in the Dark: Genealogy After Hours. Kids grades 3-6 can learn basic stitches and create beautiful gifts for themselves or someone special at Kids Crochet on Monday, October 22 at Jackson Township Branch. Just bring a crochet hook and we’ll supply the yarn and the instruction.
