North Canton Traffic Signals

Since the city has completed the street improvements on North Main Street, I was hoping the traffic would flow better than it did in the past.

I think this may have been the intention when that project was started.

I cannot understand why the decision was made to change activation of the signal light at the Wilbur/North Main intersection from "trip" activation to "timer" activation.

I travel that area frequently and I never could understand the need for this signal  originally, and it has now been compounded by placing it on timed activation.

I know hiring a traffic consultant has been discussed but until that happens could someone take a look at the need for this traffic control device??

I agree, and while they're at it...Remove all of the "No Turn on Red" signs that are on 95% of the intersections in North Canton.

Denise Lee, I agree with you. Remove all of the "No Turn on Red" signs in North Canton. Visibility is not a problem at most of the locations where those signs are posted. Regarding Dan's comment, from a historical perspective, as a council member a little over 10 years ago, I voted against installation of the traffic signal at the Wilbur/North Main intersection. Current Councilwoman, Marcia Kiesling also voted NO with along with me. The cost of that traffic signal was $110,000. The newly installed traffic signal at the intersection of Marquardt/East Maple Street is another light signal that is not needed. I thought it was to be temporary while Applegrove was closed for construction.

Another light that should be removed is at Charlotte and Hillcrest, but it doesn't pertain to the improvements. Since the Charlotte building hasn't housed a NCCS school site in years, it no longer serves that need. Just my two cents.

ALL of the North Canton traffic lights on Main street are crazy. I am tired of stopping at the red light at Taco Bell/Dollar store every morning while NO traffic is coming from those directions. Then waiting for the green turn arrow when NO car is turning. Also same thing at the Acme/Kmart entrance. So much for the "traffic cameras" to change the lights.. they are probably just cameras for those running red lights. I totally agree!!

I complain about that light at Wilbur and the one at Acme EVERY time I sit at them needlessly. It's bad enough that the one on Wilbur turns for no cars, but then to have the ARROW as well?! Ugh!!
I am so glad you voiced your opinion - hopefully something will be done about it. I thought the "timer" activation would be changed once the project was all complete, but that has not been the case. Who do we call about this?

Clearly everyone with an issue has never been stuck on a residential street nor tried to get out of a local business onto Main! Traffic lights do not only serve the intersection where they are located. Traffic lights control the flow of traffic, leaving safe openings for vehicles to come and go. They prevent racing down Main by soccer moms and teens. Sure, there may be some programming needed to tweak the timing, but to say they should go is done so without full thought of the benefit they provide.

The traffic light at Wilbur and North Main does not now nor has it in the past been a benifit to the citizens of North Canton. It was a pet project of a past mayor of this city that was a waste of taxpayers money then and continues to be a waste by interfering with the flow of traffic.
