The sun gets ready to rise over North Canton to signal the beginning of the liftoff.

The first balloons lift off!
The sun peeks over the trees looking east toward North Canton. You can see the Hoover smoke stack on the lower right.
A nice sized crowd came in the darkness to watch the liftoff.
This strawberry themed balloon was venting hot air to decend toward the target on the field. You can see how the bottom of the balloon looks pushed inward. One of the children in the crowd greeted this balloon by shouting "Hello strawberry balloon, I want to eat you!"

I attended Sunday morning's Balloon Classic at Kent State Stark/Stark State.  The balloons started lifting off just after the sunrise at 6:30am.   The event was emcee'd by local balloon enthusiest Bill Smith.

Some balloons started from the grounds of Kent Stark, but most of the balloons took off just south west of the campus as part of the skills competition.  These competing balloons flew over the main portion of the crowd in an attempt to drop a marker from thier balloon onto a large while X on the field.  The balloons can be "steered" by using different elevations and different wind currents.

I see Holly Pierpont uploaded some pics, too. Holly, the photo of the balloon landing at Hoover High is great! Love how beautiful the sky looks there.
