Dry Brushing for Lymphatic Health

Last year I read about and tried dry brushing for the first time.

I learned about it toward the end of winter so it wasn’t a part of my whole seasonal routine, but this year it will be. A few weeks ago as temperatures began to drop here in the Midwest I noticed I was slowly and steadily turning the water temperature up in the shower.

I don’t know about you, but when it’s cold outside and I’m getting up in the morning and my feet touch a chilly floor, a hot shower is just luxurious. As a result I get really dry skin, and also just from winter in general. It’s an evil trade-off, one which even the most massive amounts of lotion have difficulty combating. Enter dry brushing.

Basically dry brushing involves using a soft-bristle brush to gently massage and brush the skin, namely on the legs, arms and torso. Dry brushing removes dead skin cells and renews the skin, leaving you with fewer scales over the winter months and not so desperate a need for lotion. When I first heard about dry brushing I thought it was the strangest thing ever, and doubted it would work. But my curiosity got to me. Low and behold, I tried dry brushing and found the touted benefits to be real.
