WATCH: Dozens Shed Their Locks at St. Baldrick's Event Sunday

More than 120 people buzzed their hair off at Quaker Steak & Lube Sunday as part of the St. Baldrick's Foundation event that raises money and awareness for childhood cancer research

Setting her sights on raising $250, junior Kenzie Johnson brought in just over $1,000 for childhood cancer research.

Johnson was one of more than 120 people to raise money through the St. Baldrick's Foundation event at Sunday.

Johnson said she was inspired , now a sophomore at Hoover High School and . ( because they seem so similar.)

Childhood friend Noah Maxin also provided motivation.

"He passed away in middle school from leukemia, and I had known him my whole life," Johnson said.

Sue Stevenson, a volunteer with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, commended folks like Johnson who sacrifice their hair and fundraise for the sake of others.

Stevenson is aunt to Abbey Foltz, to whom the Canton event is dedicated each year.

Nearing the end of the day Sunday, the event had raised more than $25,000 of its $65,000 goal.

"Hopefully between all the walk-ins and everyone turning in extra money and donations that they've collected in the last week or two, plus our silent auction, we will surpass that."
