Betty Fulton and Jennifer Kling, North Canton City Schools' two new board members, were surrounded by friends and family as they were sworn in at their first meeting Thursday night.

Kling's mother, Stark County Commissioner Janet Weir Creighton, helped swear in her daughter that night.

Fulton and Kling ran in the November election against incumbent and then-board president Jordan Greenwald, Matthew Oatley and Anthony Bianchi. The two women beat out Greenwald and replaced Nancy Bundy, who chose not to run for re-election.

The swearing in took place at the board's organizational meeting that night, as did the choosing of the board's president and vice president. Nancy Marion took over as board president, while Chris Goldthorpe took over as vice president.

The board set established its subcommittees, which are as follows:

Academics: Chris Thomas and Nancy Marion
Athletics: Jennifer Kling and Chris Goldthorpe
Finance: Betty Fulton and Chris Thomas
Student Affairs: Nancy Marion and Jennifer Kling
Buildings, Grounds, Maintenance and Transportation: Betty Fulton and Chris Goldthorpe

Members decided to have their meetings at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Hoover High Media Center. The next meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Feb. 15.
