How to Get Involved with Canton's Foundation for Community Betterment
Interested in volunteering? There are several ways to become involved with Community Betterment and give back to local residents and nonprofits in need
The more people who become involved with the Canton chapter of the Foundation for Community Betterment, the more people the organization is able to help, Founder Amy Weisbrod says.
Here’s a look at the group’s upcoming events and activities — all of which are open to North Canton residents.
Family Ice Cream Social
August 19 – Almost Heaven Ice Cream, 6590 Middlebranch Ave. NE, Canton
The business will host an ice cream social with live music and a family-friendly movie. Ten percent of all sales will go to Community Betterment.
September 10, 1 p.m.-9 p.m.; 1258 Panda Road SE, Carrollton
If the organization gets 25 people to volunteer while runners compete in a 3.1-mile rugged Warrior Dash, the Canton chapter will receive $1,200 to give to local recipients — families and nonprofit organizations in need.
To volunteer, email Weisbrod at firstname.lastname@example.org.
September 24, 6 p.m. – MAPS Air Museum, 2260 International Parkway, North Canton
This one-night event is the largest fundraiser for the organization and raises the most money for its yearly recipients.
It’s also a favorite for chapter members.
“Rocktoberfest is my favorite, of course,” said Chellsea Mastroine, donations and social media chair. “I love watching the community rally together to support such deserving people. Attendees really get into the spirit of the event after the presentations and thank-you speeches from the recipients. The presence of the recipients at the event is one of the things that makes Rocktoberfest unique.”
Throughout the year, the Canton chapter also participates in a variety of other events, including:
- Domestic Violence Project – Baking and delivering birthday cakes for families staying at a local shelter
- Book drives
- Humane Society dog walks
- Habitat for Humanity
- Thanksgiving turkey drive
- Social events – organized sports and after-hours socials
