The North Canton Heritage Society has published an updated edition of its award-winning photographic history – “North Canton: A Place in Time” – just in time for holiday gift-giving.
The original 2002 pictorial book, authored by Rebecca Ink Hall and Paul David Kieffer, has been republished with 10 pages of photographs and captions to bring the history of North Canton up to date.
Other new photos include the new Veterans Memorial at Bitzer Park, the new Herbert W. Hoover memorial bridge over the west branch of the Nimishillen Creek, the new Hoover Trail and more.
In 2005, the book won an Award of Achievement from the Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums (now the Ohio Local History Alliance).
Hall is the former director of the heritage society and Kieffer is a retired Hoover High School history teacher. The updates were written by Kathleen Fernandez, current society director, with many of the new photographs taken by 2012 Walsh University graduate Amanda Perlacky.
The updated book boasts a new color (green) for its cover, but will continue to be sold for $25 per copy. It is available for purchase at the Heritage Society offices, located in the former North Canton Middle School at 200 Charlotte St. NW, and through the society's online gift shop. There is a $5 postage and handling fee for online and mail orders.
Also available for gift-giving are the society’s 2013 North Canton Photo Calendar and other North Canton-themed items, including commemorative playing cards and notecards featuring vintage photographs.
