'Gathering Signals' Exhibit Opens Saturday at the Little Art Gallery

The Little Art Gallery, located inside the North Canton Public Library, will host an opening reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to show off the work of artists Beth Lindenberger and Jack McWhorter

The Little Art Gallery will bring together the works of Jack McWhorter and Beth Lindenberger in its upcoming exhibit, "Gathering Signals."

The exhibit kicks off Saturday with an opening reception from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. It's free and open to the public.

McWhorter, an art professor at Kent State University at Stark, has his oil-on-paper and canvas works on display.

"My central theme considers science as a neutral or neutralizing structure, a kind of blank metaphor which allows me to let things be in the work — botanic forms, geometric structures and physical effects of tiny processes in, for example, melting ice, swarming insects, branching patterns and found sounds," McWhorter said.

Lindenberger, a ceramics instructor at the University of Akron, will display her sculptural ceramic forms.

"I am not so interested in copying nature, but responding to it," Lindenberger said. "Structures, fragments, systems, referencing objects large and small, microscopic, telescopic and that which can be viewed by the naked eye. Simple objects overlooked due to familiarity, suddenly invoking interaction."

"Gathering Signals" runs through Sept. 23.

The Little Art Gallery is open during regular North Canton Public Library hours (10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday).
