Firefighters Respond to Kitchen Grease Fire on Portage Avenue Tuesday Night
No injuries were reported, and the fire caused about $5,000 in damages
North Canton firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in the 800 block of Portage Avenue Tuesday.
Chief John Bacon said a pan full of grease had caught fire inside the kitchen of a single-family home just before 10:30 p.m. that night.
No injuries were reported.
“It was a young couple, and they got out OK,” Bacon said. “We’re estimating around $5,000 in damages.”
Bacon said he was the first on the scene Tuesday night.
"When I got there he had moved the pan to the sink," he said. "I hit it quickly with an extinguisher so it didn’t do any further damage than what had already been done.”
North Canton firefighters were the only department to respond, and they brought out two engines and a ladder truck.
The North Canton Fire Department also had responded to a fire in the 1000 block of Park Avenue NE Jan. 31. The fire, which caused $30,000 in damages, has since been under investigation. Bacon said the department awaits a report from an insurance company investigator.
