North Canton Community Turns in 97 Pounds of Prescription Drugs During National Take-Back Day

On Oct. 29, the North Canton Police Department partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and gave the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service was free and anonymous.

At the police department, the public turned in 97 pounds of prescription drugs and 29 pounds of plastic containers.

Once again, this initiative addressed a vital public safety and public health issue. It provided an alternative and positive solution for the public to rid their homes of medicines that languish in home cabinets and on shelves where they are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. The program also provided a positive method for disposing of unused drugs and medicines--instead of flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash--both pose potential safety and health hazards.

The North Canton Police Department wants to thank all the people who chose to participate and support this community and nationwide event.
