Canton Country Day is Outstanding in Power of the Pen District Competition

Thursday, Jan. 10th at Mount Union University 19 schools and 409 students in grades 7 & 8 participated in the District Power of the Pen Tournament. In three rounds, each student wrote a timed original story based on a given prompt.  All scores were tabulated and the top 15 students in each grade received individual awards based on their scores.

CCDS 7th graders placing in the top 15 individually were:  Shira Weiner 12th place and Madeline Shaub 11th place.  Madeline also received a journal for being a Best of Round winner.  Her writing piece will now advance to regional judging where it may be selected to be published.

The 7th grade team collectively placed 4th overall.

For 8th grade, in the top 15 were:  Caiya Sanchez-Strauss 9th and Megan Mader 2nd.  Also receiving a Best of Round award was Stefanie Pousoulides. Her writing piece will now advance to regional judging where it may be selected to be published.

The 8th grade team won the first place trophy.

Pam Shaw, Head of School states, "Canton Country Day School is very proud of these awards given the size of our school in comparison to the size of other schools that competed."

Congratulations to all the participating students and their coaches, Mrs. Sommers and Mrs. Mongold.

More good news for Canton Country Day School. Final results are in. Congratulations to the 8th grade Power of the Pen team as all were selected to go on to regional competition. Four of the six seventh graders will also be participating in the regional tournament. Let's hope for another successful day of writing in March at Malone University!
